Te āheinga: The opportunity

As our Economic Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, planning and delivering sustainable projects across the South Waikato District collaborating with key stakeholders, managing investment inquiries and ensuring the district’s economic strategies align with the Long Term Plan 2024-34 and Economic Development Plan. 

Nga Kawenga me nga Mahi: Responsibilities and Duties

  • Drive employment growth and establish new enterprises within South Waikato. Manage sustainable economic growth projects and work with local businesses to foster a thriving economy.
  • Align workstreams with the council’s long-term objectives and prepare economic development strategies in line with best local government practices.
  • Track trends and economic data to ensure strategies are working effectively, and report progress to the Council and other stakeholders.
  • Actively seek external funding and grants to support economic development initiatives and submit business cases for new projects.
  • Build strong partnerships with local, regional, and national stakeholders, including government ministries, to advocate for the district and secure investment opportunities.
  • Manage external funding and project budgets, ensuring effective use of resources and financial accountability.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-looking individual that has:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in economic development, business, or marketing.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an economic development or closely related role.
  • Private sector experience
  • Previous budget and financial management experience
