Te āheinga: The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Roading Contract Supervisor – Maintenance to oversee and administer roading maintenance operations and associated projects across the district. This includes roads and drainage, footpaths, kerb and channelling, and other related maintenance activities.
About the role
This role plays a key part in ensuring Council’s roading network is maintained safely, efficiently, and to agreed levels of service. You will work closely with contractors, internal teams, and the community to ensure maintenance programmes are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
Primarily located in Tokoroa, South Waikato District and reporting to the Transportation Manager within Council, this role sits within a collaborative operational environment and has a strong focus on contract performance, quality assurance, and customer service. The hours required for this role are 40 hours per week.
Nga Kawenga me nga Mahi: Responsibilities and Duties
- Monitor and manage maintenance contracts to ensure delivery within agreed levels of service, timeframes, and budgets
- Undertake audits and quality assurance activities, including health and safety audits, and instruct corrective actions where required
- Ensure contractors comply with Council health and safety procedures, policies, and best practice
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Respond to public enquiries, service requests, and complaints in a professional, timely, and customer-focused manner
- Ensure the roading network and related assets are safe, accessible, and well maintained
He kōrero mōu: We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a tertiary qualification in civil engineering (NZCE/NZDE) or a related discipline or has equivalent knowledge and training from 5+ years of relevant on-the-job experience and training
- Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in contract management, ideally within roading or infrastructure maintenance
- Demonstrates proven contract and maintenance management skills, including budget and programme delivery
- Has sound knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines (NZ Standards, NZTA, Austroads, Land Transport NZ)
- Is highly digitally literate and confident using systems and reporting tools
- Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with contractors, colleagues, and the wider community
- Has a strong commitment to health and safety and understands its practical application
- Demonstrates an awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance in a local government environment
- Holds a current, valid driver’s licence
