At South Waikato District Council things are changing and we have positioned ourselves to embrace the diversity of our district and deliver a bold vision for the future. We are looking for a customer service officer who will embrace the challenges and opportunities associated with delivering valuable frontline services, support, information, and advice to South Waikato citizens and visitors to our district. 

Te āheinga: The opportunity 

Our Customer Service teams are tasked with providing an exceptional standard of end-to-end Council and Library customer services by assessing and understanding the needs of customers, to produce the right solutions and advice.  

This opportunity will be primarily based at our Tirau location; however, you may be required to work in any of our three sites across the district (Tirau, Putaruru and Tokoroa).  The role offers plenty of variety and interaction with our council customers and also providing information on local attractions and businesses to the many visitors to our region.  

The hours are spread across three 6.5 hour days - a total of 19.5 hours per week. The hours will be on a rotational basis and weekend work will be required.

Nga Kawenga me nga Mahi - Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Act as the first point of contact for customer enquiries made in person, via phone or online; Providing accurate and timely support and information that is delivered with empathy and professionalism, ensuring every interaction is positive. 

  • Using Council databases, systems, websites and technology with skill and accuracy to facilitate customer requests, process payments, update information and resolve queries.   

  • Supporting customers in using library resources, technology, and books, and promoting community library programmes and outreach. 

  • Creating an inviting and interactive space for visitors.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Previous experience in a customer service role with a genuine commitment to providing exceptional service and improving customer experiences. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and colleagues.

  • Comfortable in using office software (ie Microsoft) and capable of learning new systems quickly. 

  • Confidence in decision making and problem-solving skills.

  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy in both customer interactions and administrative duties. 

  • A sound understanding of the South Waikato region, our attractions and communities.
