We are seeking an experienced and motivated Learn to Swim and Water Safety Coordinator to play a key role in the re-opening of South Waikato Indoor Pools following a full refurbishment.

This is a rare opportunity to help relaunch, shape, and grow our learn-to-swim and water safety programmes in a modern, upgraded aquatic facility, while making a meaningful impact on community safety and well-being.

Nga Kawenga me nga Mahi: Responsibilities and Duties

As the Learn to Swim and Water Safety Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate and oversee all learn-to-swim and water safety programmes
  • Lead, support, and develop swim instructors and educators
  • Ensure programmes are safe, inclusive, and aligned with best practice
  • Play a key role in re-establishing programmes post-refurbishment
  • Introduce new programmes in response to community needs
  • Work closely with schools, community groups, and sector partners
  • Monitor programme performance, participation, and progression

This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on leadership, programme development, and the opportunity to build strong foundations in a refreshed facility.

You will bring:

  • Experience as a swim instructor or within aquatic programmes
  • Strong knowledge of learn-to-swim pathways and water safety education
  • Confidence leading, mentoring, or supervising staff
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Passion for drowning prevention and community outcomes

Qualifications (or willingness to obtain)

  • Recognised Swim Instructor qualification
  • Current First Aid
  • Police Vetting (Child Safety)
  • Water Safety or Aquatics qualification (desirable)
  • Lifeguard qualification (desirable)
