Te āheinga: The opportunity
South Waikato District Council is seeking a dynamic leader to lead and coordinate Council’s environmental infrastructure functions, with a focus on solid waste, stormwater, and asset compliance.
Nga Kawenga me nga Mahi - Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide leadership and oversight of solid waste operations, including kerbside collection, waste minimisation initiatives, transfer stations, and closed landfill management
- Manage Council’s stormwater infrastructure planning, maintenance, and environmental performance
- Coordinate asset compliance for Three Waters infrastructure, including drinking water safety plans, consents, and regulatory reporting obligations
- Ensure all activities meet relevant legislative, environmental, and health and safety standards
- Contribute to the development and implementation of waste minimisation, stormwater, and sustainability strategies
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory authorities, contractors, iwi, and the wider community
- Collaborate with asset management and capital delivery teams to embed environmental compliance into planning and project execution.

He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-looking individual that has:
- Experience in environmental management, infrastructure operations, or compliance-focused roles
- Strong understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. RMA, LGA, Water Services Act, Waste Minimisation Act)
- Familiarity with Three Waters infrastructure and stormwater network management
- Strong project coordination and contract management skills
- Ability to lead and coach staff, contractors, and community partners
- Excellent communication, relationship management, and problem-solving skills
- A commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
